An Evening with Rick Smith
Being human can be quite the challenge. We have a massive capacity for love of self and other, yet we are constantly sidetracked by strong experiences and doubts that can throw us off center.
How do we navigate through the waves of experience, and find our true north within our own bodies?
How do we make peace with and begin to celebrate who we are, when who we are often feels limited and full of longing?
The 3-hour experience will be focused on simple ways to bring kindness, Grace, perspective and insight into the questions and challenges that we face every day. Modalities may include talk, safe touch, movement, and deep listening.
Many years ago, a friend said to me: “How am I doing? The answer is always the same- never enough.”
This “never enough” feeling is such a part of the human experience, we often don’t even notice it. It’s just the background noise that, when unconscious, generates all sorts of anxiety, separation, and stress.
Much of human striving is an attempt to reduce, get rid of, or bargain with this internal noise.
The saving grace is that simultaneously within all of us is an awareness of our innate wholeness, goodness, innocence, and wonder.
Both these realities coexist. We are human beings. As Humans, we have myriad patterns and conditions. As Beings, we have access to Oneness, “Enoughness,” and innate Joy.
We can access this more holistic reality, without having to get rid of our humanness, our apparent limitations, and our longing. As a matter of fact, our humanness and our longing are access points - doorways into a deeper consciousness that abides within us all the time.
The key is in our bodies. They are treasures of presence, aliveness, and wisdom. And it doesn’t matter how fit we are, how old we are, or how many good deeds we’ve done. We can always find our True Nature in our bodies.
How do we do this? Good question! It’s different every time. But bringing our awareness to our own bodies and breath is a good start. And, there’s something about a room full of like-minded people, all leaning in the direction of openness and tenderness, that seems to create an alchemy in the collective nervous system, allowing our own individual nervous systems to release tension, and relax into a deepened state of awareness and ease.
I don’t know what we’ll do. That is why it’s called “An Evening with Rick Smith,” as opposed to “learn this technique” or “do this thing.” There is an aliveness and a fluidity to Life, and my intention is for all of us to ride that wave, and have the evening be an adventure into the Mystery, where we re-member ourselves as truly enough, just how we are. Bring your kind heart, your tender heart, your shy heart. All hearts are welcome.
